17th January 2003 : Appointment of a new member of the Conseil de la concurrence

By a decree dated 13th January 2003, Mrs Martine Behar-Touchais, a law professor at the University of Paris V, has been appointed a member of the Conseil de la concurrence as one of the persons "chosen for their expertise in economics or in competition and consumer affairs" (article L. 461-1-II-2°).

She replaces Mrs Chantal Boutard-Labarde, whose mandate officially expired last year.

For information, the Conseil de la concurrence is made up of seventeen members, drawn from three colleges:

  • 8 members (who must include the Chairperson and two Vice-Chairpersons) are current or former members of the Conseil d'Etat (Council of State), the Cour de cassation (Supreme Court), the Cour des comptes (General Accounting Office) or other administrative or civil courts ;
  • 4 members are chosen for their expertise in economics or in competition and consumer affairs ;
  • 5 members are professionals from production, distribution, craft trades, services and the liberal professions.

Members of the Conseil are appointed for a renewable six-year term, by decree following a recommendation by the Minister of Economy.
