9 September 2010: Creation of the Triskalia cooperative in Brittany

agriculture

The Autorité de la concurrence authorizes the merger of the Coopagri Bretagne, Union Eolys and CAM 56 agricultural cooperatives

Version française

In its decision on 9 September 2010, the Autorité de la concurrence authorized the creation, by the Coopagri Bretagne, Union Eolys and CAM 56 agricultural cooperatives, of a new agricultural cooperative called “Triskalia”, resulting firstly from the merger between Coopagri Bretagne and Union Eolys, and secondly by the partial transfer of assets of CAM 56 to Coopagri Bretagne.

The new group’s main activities will be the multiplication of seeds, the collection and trading of cereals, oilseeds and protein crops, the distribution of agro-supports, the marketing of vegetables, the collection of meat poultry, the distribution of fuel oil and the general public distribution of articles for the garden, DIY and landscaping.

The operation does not raise any competition problems, even on local markets

The Autorité devoted particular attention to this merger’s effects that are likely to occur on the local level, notably throughout the département or region. This is notably the case of the supply of fertilizer, seeds or phytosanitary products to farmers, markets in which “Triskalia” will account for 30 to 40% of the sales in Brittany.

For these products, however, the new group will still face competition from other suppliers such as the Cecab, Le Gouessant, Cooperl and Garun Paysanne cooperatives, and from retailers such as Glon Sanders and Proxagri. The Autorité has also taken note that Triskalia’s members will be free to obtain their procurements from the operator of their choice.
