The Autorité de la concurrence clears the merger between the Médica Group and the Korian Group.

The Autorité de la concurrence clears the merger between the Médica Group and the Korian Group in the sectors of long-term accommodation for the elderly, convalescent and rehabilitation care homes, and domestic care services.

As the Korian Group and the Médica Group have respectively 129 and 155 retirement homes and serviced residences, their merger leads to overlapping activities in Ile-de-France [Paris region] and in 35 départements. However, the merger will not result in market shares exceeding 10%, in both the Ile-de-France region and the départements. Therefore, the transaction will not harm competition among care and accommodation centres for dependent elderly people (known as “EHPAD” in France).

Likewise, in the sector of convalescent and rehabilitation care homes, which provide temporary accommodation for dependent people, in particular after surgery, the market shares of the new entity will be moderate and the transaction will not harm competition.

Finally, the Korian and Médica groups both operate in the sector of domestic care services, but in different regions and départements. Therefore, their merger will not lead to any change in competition conditions at the local level.
