Fabienne Siredey-Garnier, a judge, has been appointed Vice-president of the Autorité de la concurrence by Decree of the President of the French Republic, effective from 16 April 2018.

She succeeds Claire Favre, whose term of office is coming to an end. The President of the Autorité, Isabelle de Silva, the Board, and all of the employees of the institution express their most sincere thanks to her and acknowledge the incredible work that she carried out during these past five years.

The Autorité welcomes the appointment of Fabienne Siredey-Garnier, whose skills and varied experience in the administrative, legal and community fields represent a strong asset for the institution. Further, as she is familiar with competition issues, her experience will usefully fuel and inform the debates held by the Board.

Holding a Master’s degree in Law and a second in History, Fabienne Siredey-Garnier also graduated from the French National School of Taxes (École nationale des impôts). After starting her carreer in 1987 at the Directorate-General for Taxation (Direction générale des impôts), in 1992 she joined the Civil Affairs and Seals Directorate of the Ministry of Justice (Direction des affaires civiles et du sceau au ministère de la justice), where she took a special interest in regulated professions. A national expert on secondment to the Legal Service of the European Commission (2000-2001), she handled a wide variety of cases, among which were merger control cases. She joined the judiciary in January 2003, after working at the Ministry of Justice. A Deputy State prosecutor (Substitut du Procureur de la République) attached to the Regional Court of Evreux (2003-2005), she was, until 2007, a Judge at the Regional Court of Bobigny (Tribunal de Grande Instance de Bobigny) before joining the Conseil de la concurrence as a Case officer from 2008 to 2009. A Vice-President of the Regional Court of Nanterre until 2014, she was appointed Vice-President of the Regional Court of Paris (Tribunal de grande instance de Paris) in 2015, presiding over the 17th Division of the Court (17ème chambre correctionnelle, focused on the rights of the press), before specializing in financial and economic affairs by taking over the Presidency of the 11th Division (Economic and Financial affairs) as well as the co-presidency of the 32nd Division (cases of the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office) in 2017.
