On 22 May 2026, the European Commission referred to the Autorité de la concurrence the examination of the creation of a full-function joint venture by the Auchan group (Auchan Retail International) and Groupement Mousquetaires (ITM Entreprises) to operate, in mainland France (excluding Corsica), 167 food retail stores, almost exclusively in a “supermarket” format, currently controlled solely by Auchan, where applicable with any adjoining service stations.

Following the transaction, the 167 stores currently operated under the Auchan banner will be operated under the Intermarhcé or Netto banners.

Auchan and Groupement Mousquetaires, which will have joint control of the stores, are primarily active in the food retail sector, which will be analysed in detail by the Autorité de la concurrence, covering both upstream supply markets (relations with suppliers) and local markets (retail distribution to consumers).
