Eshien Chong, who holds a doctorate in economics and was previously Chief Economist at the Hong Kong Competition Authority, will take over the management of the Chief Economist’s team, which comprises eight employees, on 5 September.

This position was previously held by Etienne Pfister, to whom the Autorité expresses its sincere thanks for the quality of his work and wishes him every success in his new duties.

Biography

Eshien Chong has a doctorate in Economics (University of Paris-Sud 11), a DEA (Diploma of Advanced Studies) in Industrial Economics-Econometrics (University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne), and a Master’s in Economics (University of Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne). He started his career as a Senior Lecturer in Economics and Quantitative Techniques at the University of Paris-Sud 11 (2007-2012) and at the IAE in Paris (2012-2014).

In 2015, he joined the Autorité de la concurrence, where he served for four years as permanent rapporteur (case officer) in the Chief Economist’s team.

He had been Chief Economist at the Hong Kong Competition Authority since 2019.
