The Autorité de la concurrence has announced that it is sending a delegation to Corsica

Corse

The Autorité de la concurrence has been asked, on behalf of the Government, by the Minister for the Economy and Finance to give an opinion on economic mergers in Corsica, specifically in the sectors where concerns have been expressed by the actors, and notably those of fuel distribution, mass retail distribution, waste and maritime transport.

In this context, the Autorité de la concurrence has announced that a delegation will travel to the island at the beginning of December, formed by Fabienne Siredey-Garnier, Vice-President; Stanislas Martin, General Rapporteur; Thomas Piquereau, Deputy General Rapporteur; and several case officers from the investigation services.

In order to get as close as possible to the reality on the ground, the Autorité wants in particular to meet local elected representatives, heads of companies, public institutions, associations and social partners, as well as the prefectoral authority and the devolved services of the State, to discuss the competitive functioning of markets in Corsica.

These interviews will enable the Autorité to draw up an analysis of the competitive situation in certain “key” sectors and to make recommendations suited to the balanced growth of the island economy, combining productivity gains for businesses and improved purchasing power for Corsican consumers.

The Autorité will deliver its opinion in the first half of 2020.
